Special features regarding teaching

In the practice-integrated course, students are employed throughout the duration of studies by a company. As a result, they grow into the company from the start and can combine academic training with professional practice. The goal is to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in practice and vice versa. The degree course offers a variety of elective modules. The company portal provides an overview of partner companies and the work placement places available.

Special features regarding the international orientation

At the Minden Campus, there are regular informational events for students about "Work placements and studies abroad" by the Foreign Students Office. The International Office in Bielefeld is open to all students for guidance on short visits, work placements and foreign programmes. A number of practice-integrated companies offer stays abroad during the practical phases. In individual modules there are lectures by international experts and the presentation of networks.

Special features regarding the equipment

In the new building, the Minden campus has modern lab workstations (e.g. CAD lab with computer workstations, A0 plotter and 3D printer) and a newly equipped machine hall with high-quality and modern equipment/devices like those used in industry. The library has an extensive range of academic articles and literature. Students also have access to relevant full-text databases. In the new building, meeting points for individual studying or for group work have been set up on each floor.

Special features regarding research activities

The Minden Campus department is mainly involved in application-oriented research and development. The research work is generally carried out with partners such as companies, associations or public institutions. The aim is to generate research results that support the innovation activities of the partners and that can be transferred to application in the short term.

Support for founders

In 2017, the Minden campus co-initiated an association to support start-ups and establish a start-up culture, e.g. via lecture series on "Entrepreneurship & Innovation". Start-ups in StartMIndenUp, the start-up centre on site, receive expert advice and further training as part of the StartUpAcademy, among other things. The Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) is a university-wide point of contact for all those interested in starting a business at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, which provides active support in all phases of a business start-up.

Other special features

Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences also pursues important cross-cutting themes such as diversity and sustainability. These issues are structurally anchored, e.g. with corresponding strategies, audits, officers, committees and working groups. Where equal opportunities for men and women are concerned, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences takes a lead position at the state and federal levels.
