Architecture courses are taught in small, manageable units with direct and individual supervision; Project and design work with elective options and in studio structure; Cooperation with the degree course in Energy Engineering, interdisciplinary with other relevant degree courses of the university and beyond; International orientation through many partnerships (see international orientation) as well as guided excursions; Practically oriented teaching and applied research; Integration of a practical phase of 100 days of compulsory attendance into the course structure; Good facilities.

Partnerships and cooperation arrangements with foreign institutions of higher education: CalPoly Pomona, USA; HSLU; Lucerne, Switzerland; CalPoly San Luis Obispo, USA; Univ. of Patras, Greece, etc. Practical semesters abroad are funded with grants and recognised. International guest professorships complement the offer of instruction. Extensive offers of guided arch. excursions. Summer Schools. The HBC is unique in Germany in offering an international bachelor’s degree for courses. Students invest an additional semester and spend a total of one year for a semester of practical experience and semester of studies abroad. The year abroad is an integral component of the degree programme.
