Special features regarding research activities

With regard to specific research fields, the Faculty of Medicine focuses on cardiovascular diseases, immunology and infectiology, oncology, translational neuro- and behavioural sciences, and transplantation. These key topics have been strengthened by the inter-disciplinary nature of the basic research and clinically-orientated science in numerous research associations. The faculty is the spokesperson for two SFBs, SFB/TRR 289 "Treatment Expectation" and SFB/TRR 296 "Local Control of Thyroid Hormone Action".

Other special features

The character of the campus at the Essen university clinic with all the essential institutions in one location – clinics as well as preclinic-theoretical and clinical institutes – enables the excellent linking of theoretical and practical knowledge. Particular focus is placed on the targeted promotion of the next generation of academics. In addition to the internal research promotion programme IFORES, two programmes are particularly noteworthy: The Mentoring programme MediMent and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science BIOME.
