Special features regarding teaching

The Bachelor's and Master's course in European Economic Studies (EES) is characterised by teaching with an international focus, which can be completed largely in English, depending on the courses selected by students. A balanced combination of lectures, seminars and language training is ensured. The high level of freedom in choosing courses and the integration of a broad range of courses from neighbouring disciplines (including Business Administration, Politics, Sociology, Business Informatics) allows students to give their studies an individual focus with regard to a subsequent Master's degree or professional life.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Compulsory stay abroad in the Bachelor’s in EES, voluntary semester abroad in the Master’s in EES. High percentage of classes not taught in German. Two foreign business languages (Bachelor) and/or one or two (Master): Business English, Spanish, Italian, French and Russian. Research cooperation with universities in Spain, Italy, USA, Finland and the Netherlands. Currently two double degree agreements in the Bachelor’s in EES, two double degree agreements in the Master’s in EES. A joint Master’s degree is currently being established (EU funded: design measure).

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Heriott-Watt University, Großbritannien; National University of Ireland in Galway, Irland; Universitat de Barcelona, Spanien; University of Turku, Finnland; Cracow University of Economics, Polen; Corvinus University Budapest, Ungarn; Universidad de Santiago de Chile; Sun Yat-sen University, Zhuhai, China; Stellenbosch University, Südafrika; University of Georgia, USA.

Special features regarding the equipment

Experimental laboratory, powerful data centre including access to databases such as Datastream and software such as Stata, very well-stocked library.

Special features regarding research activities

Intensive collaboration in the field of Behavioural Economics; regular publications in internationally leading journals and presentation of new research results at international conferences. Member of the Bavarian Graduate Programme in Economics (BGPE). The Bamberg Research Training Group "Limited Rationality, Heterogeneity and Network Effects" is also part of the Institute of Economics.

Other special features

Two members of the Institute of Economics are in the Sustainability Steering Group of the University of Bamberg and here jointly lead the Working Group on Studies and Teaching. The friends and alumni association European Economic Studies acts, among other things, as a link between the chairs and students, thus enabling it to become actively involved in the design and further development of the programme. Close cooperation with the Institute for Labour Market and Employment Research (Nuremberg): Two special professorships in Economics held by department heads of the IAB.
