Special features regarding teaching

A variety of theoretical and methodological approaches, for example with regard to scientifically recognised and innovative approaches in psychotherapy. Since internal and interdisciplinary scientific communication (SC) that's addressed to lay people is required in almost every activity, the PHB offers its own SC module with intensive training and trainer certificate. Regular courses are concentrated on 2-3 weekdays. Block courses are between half a day and four full days long. Postgraduate courses in psychology can be taken after the undergraduate degree.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to numerous international cooperation agreements with lecturers, the school of psychology has concluded a cooperation agreement with the University of Georgia, Tbilisi, which enables student exchanges and internships abroad, among other things. Conferences with international participants are held in the PHB's own psychology building. Students receive support in attending international conferences. Once the ERASMUS Charter has been issued, it the opportunity for internships abroad will be offered. PHB has several students and employees of foreign origin.

Special features regarding research activities

Process outcomes research in large university outpatient departments, psychodynamic concept research, healthcare research, studies on therapeutic relationships, expectation effects, (trans-diagnostic) vulnerabilities, psychological factors in physical diseases. Particular social relevance, e.g. projects (DFG, BMBF, innovation fund, among others) on aggression in adolescence, Islamist terrorism, psychoanalytical cultural research, excess mortality of the mentally ill, risks to the well-being of the child and questioning of children in the event of suspicion.

Support for founders

Information events on start-ups of psychological and psychotherapeutic practices. Compulsory courses on the legal and ethical foundations of the profession.

Other special features

The non-profit PHB is located in the centre of Berlin; in its psychology building it accommodates the Psychology Professional Association BDP, the German Psychology Academy, the German Psychologists Publishing House (DPV) and psychotherapy training outpatient clinics with different approaches. This facilitates direct contact with practitioners in psychology. The PHB is the first German university with a professorship in the psychology of family law. Tuition fees are only charged during the standard period of study; if the study period is extended, a monthly administrative fee of currently just €30 applies.
